In the current global recession where increase of unemployment levels has been widespread, the publication of this special issue on contemporary job insecurity is timely. The bulk of research on this topic in the past focused on the definition of job insecurity and attempted to unravel its potential consequences. This special issue offers deeper insight into the issue, increasing our understanding of factors that may be affected by job insecurity, extending the list of possible outcomes, exploring new theoretical frameworks and considering experiences of recovery.
